NICARAGUA VRS COSTA RICA EN EL SIGLO XX (II y final)
Los hermanos Calderón Guardia, Rafael Ángel y Francisco, con el apoyo de Somoza, y ahora con la alianza de Trujillo de República Dominicana y Marcos Pérez Jiménez (los tres dictadores), no daban tregua.
En enero de 1955 ejecutan la más brutal agresión a Costa Rica. La invasión del 55 fue por aire y tierra, comandada por Teodoro Picado Lara, hijo del Ex presidente Teodoro Picado.
Esta invasión tuvo una gran repercusión internacional, con gran presencia de la prensa nacional e internacional, en el campo de hostilidades desde el primer día. Hasta vino la OEA, cuando era eficiente en liderazgo y efectiva en acción.
La Revista Bohemia, de La Habana, la de mayor circulación en América Latina en la época, le dedica un gran despliegue. Envía como corresponsal al campo de batalla al famoso periodista Henry Wallace, quien escribe: “En el frente de batalla de Costa Rica: la historia de la heroica batalla por la democracia costarricense contra los agentes mercenarios de las dictaduras, se escriben en estos momentos con sangre y metralla en las tranquilas lomas de Guanacaste”.
Viene también un artículo de aquel periodista e ilustre historiador cubano don Herminio Portel Villa. Bohemia le dedica el editorial del 17 de enero de 1955: “En defensa de Costa Rica”.
El 15 de enero viene la tragedia en la Batalla de Santa Rosa. Joaquín Vargas Gené, de grata memoria, en La Nación del 17 de enero escribe con dolor: “Al atardecer del sábado pasado, se efectuó en los sitios de Santa Rosa, la más intensa batalla que posiblemente se haya verificado en toda la historia. De nuevo, los muros históricos de la vieja casona de la hacienda, férreos testigos de hechos heroicos, de anhelos, de congojas y de dolor y de sangre de muchos costarricenses”.
Un ataque mortal y una explosión de granada caen en el grupo, soldados y periodistas, dejando a todos heridos. Fallece Óscar Cordero Rojas, periodista de La Prensa Libre. Jorge Vargas Gené, periodista de La Nación, mortalmente herido, es llevado a Liberia, luego a San José donde muere al día siguiente.
La Prensa Libre del 17 de enero dice. “Un inmenso crespón negro enluta nuestra Prensa Libre y enluta nuestros corazones, Oscar Cordero Rojas, el compañero dilecto moría en acción”.
.jpg) Fallecen también los patriotas Mario Cordero Crocceri, hermano del periodista José Rafael Cordero Crocceri y Rodolfo Chavarría. Gravemente en medio de tantos heridos con la explosión de una granada en la cabeza queda también Carlos Luis Mora Gómez (suegro de quien esto escribe), quien fallece un tiempo después en Estados Unidos.
La Revista Bohemia presenta en la página dos la foto de Mora Gómez, herido, a toda plana, acompañado por varios patriotas, entre ellos el Ing. Oscar Urbina. En otras páginas presente muchos heridos más, entre ellos el periodista Joaquín Vargas Gené.
En otras páginas Bohemia presenta en el campo de batalla a José Figueres, Presidente de la República, a Marcial Aguiluz, Rodolfo Quirós y otros patriotas de los altos mandos (Bohemia, Archivo hermanos Mora).
El 12 de enero había sido ametrallado la Ciudad de San José, la ciudad tranquila y callada en aquellos dorados tiempos. Un avión venezolano, de Pérez Jiménez, voló tirando fuego, desde el Liceo de Costa Rica hasta Barrio México, donde una casa recibió el impacto de un proyectil, que entró por el techo y cruzó los dos pisos incrustándose en la cocina. Frente el Diario de Costa Rica (Avenida Central con calle 1) varios impactos de proyectil rompieron la quietud poco antes de la ocho de una triste mañana.
Yo iba para mi trabajo en una oficina de la avenida tercera, cuando vi nada más que todo el mundo corría cielo y tierra. La única víctima fue una perrita que cruzaba la avenida central como a esa hora. La ciudad quedó desierta.
La Tiranía de Somoza, la Estirpe sangrienta, como la llamó un escritor de ese país, invadió Costa Rica en 1960. Entraron hasta Ciudad Quesada. En una emboscada de la fatídica y criminal Guardia Nacional, ahora aliados de Daniel Ortega y de Edén Pastora, mataron al Coronel Alfonso Monge, Director de la Guardia Civil de Costa Rica.
El Coronel Monge trabajaba antes como Jefe de Relaciones Laborales en la United Fruit Co.
